Ben Clayton-Jolly

Ben's passion, and lifelong interest, is leadership and human performance. After working as an outdoor pursuits instructor in the early 1980's he spent 13 years in an organisational leadership role. This was initially with the British Army's Parachute Regiment, and then as a Country Director in Zimbabwe, and then Uganda, for Raleigh International, the youth development charity. Since 1995 he has been working as a consultant developing leadership, team and organisational performance for a wide variety of national and international organisations, commercial, public sector and NGO.

Typically Ben works at middle manager to executive board level to develop leadership at a professional, and personal, level in individuals and teams. His approach integrates performance coaching; seminars, workshops and development centres; and organisational consulting to create a leadership, and high performance, culture. He is an experienced executive coach and has a particular interest in creating high impact learning experiences using experiential learning. Since 1989 he has been developing a unique approach to leadership development involving wilderness based leadership programmes in developing countries. In 2004 he was a consultant and team coach for the Channel 4 documentary ‘The Carrot or The Stick' which explored the impact of leadership on competing teams undertaking demanding physical challenges in the Welsh mountains.

Ben has studied extensively in the fields of education, psychology, psychotherapy and leadership.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, and has a MA in Psychological Coaching. His approach is integrative and systemic, and combines some of the latest thinking from a wide variety of fields including neuroscience, coaching and sports psychology, as well as his own wide ranging personal experiences in leadership, and performance development.

Ben lives between the French Alps and Oxford, England, and enjoys climbing, skiing, running and yoga whenever he can. He is a qualified ski instructor and international mountain leader. He is also training as a yoga teacher.
